Vol. 6 contains the larger sacred works: Magnificat, masses, oratorios
oratorio by Harnoncourt (I suppose), the 4 missae breves by Corboz,
Bach's arrangement of Pergolesi's Stabat mater on text of Psalm 51 in
Vol. 6 contains the larger sacred works: Magnificat, masses, oratorios
and passions: the b-minor mass, the passions and the Christmas
oratorio by Harnoncourt (I suppose), the 4 missae breves by Corboz,
Magnificat BWV 243a by Preston, Easter Oratorio by Koopman. Curious is
Bach's arrangement of Pergolesi's Stabat mater on text of Psalm 51 in
a recording by Gunar Letzbor (with St Florianer Sängerknaben,
originally released by Symphonia).
Harnoncourts interpretations are again monuments and indispensable for
Bach lovers. Unfortunately he has never recorded the short masses. I
have never heard Corboz, but they are non-HIP. Magnificat and Easter
Oratorio are OK. Psalm 51 is a curiosity and well worth having. The
performance by the boys (soloists and choir) is impressive.
